Day 18 Shallotte, NC to Carolina Beach, NC 38 miles

Well, did it rain or what!? We Californians are not at all used to this type of weather, rain that is. 13 of us left in the rain for what was to be our shortest day of the entire Atlantic Coast ride, just 37.7 miles with a Ferry ride to boot. A wonder! Wonder indeed, who would choose to do this ride? It was pouring, windy but with a mild temputure. So off we went. Our first rest stop was at a convinence store named Worms and Coffee! Who could resist? Even our Sag driver, Nancy stopped and gave us water! Thanx! She wasn't going to make a stop before the Ferry but did, lucky us. There was some talk of stopping the Ferry due to the choppy waters so we needed to make the 11:30A. Off again and we made it on time. At the information stop at the Ferry we parked our bikes leaning on the brick wall of the building waiting a bit to board. After an inside look around on my return to where the bikes were, many pictures were being taken. In the grout of the wall right by my bike was a tiny, what was told to us, Rat snake! Yikes, I moved my bike! On arriving pretty hungry to Carolina Beach we stopped at a very nice Seafood restaurant where I had a crab cake sandwich. Then to my horror I found out we were on the 3rd floor without an elevator!! Up we toiled with bikes and luggage. However, when Wendy discovered the TV didn't work the office let us move to the first floor which will make our AM departure that much eaiser. Thanx Wendy! Tropical storm Ana is building and so is concern of our being able to do tomorrow's ride. We'll have to wait and see.

  1. I have some tough friends! Proud of all the riding you are doing in spite of less than perfect weather.
